Belgrano is a distinguished residential district. There are many shops in this area as well as restaurants, green open spaces and places of arquitectural interest. Quieter than other residential neighborhoods, you can find Cabildo Av. full stores and shops, the hilly "Barrancas de Belgrano" park (one of the most prominent places of the district) and the local Chinatown.
The center of Buenos Aires, also referred as the "Downtown" or "Centro" is quite busy during working hours. This section of the city is essentially a financial and commercial district, with a large concentration of banks, offices, businesses, and hotels. Among many attractions, visitors will find places of tourist interest such as the city hall known as the "Cabildo", the government house (Casa Rosada), the Plaza de Mayo, the cathedral, the "Manzana de las Luces", the Colón theater, the obelisk, and the national congress.
Palermo is a large and lively neighborhood broken up into sub-areas of Palermo: Viejo, Chico, Soho and Hollywood. The areas of Palermo Viejo, Soho and Hollywood are hip neighborhoods with trendy shops of local designers, fashion restaurant and great bars that are frequented by young people. The massive park of Palermo (350 acres) features beautiful lakes, a rose garden, a Japanese garden, the Zoo, the Planetarium, and even a Hippodrome.
The newest neighborhood in the city was first used for storage by the docks but was transformed into the modern hotspot that it is today. This sector has a strong development in apartment buildings, stores and shops. Here you can enjoy a walk around the marina and take a break at one of the numerous outdoor cafes and restaurants watching the Sarmiento Frigate, the Calatrava bridge, the Starck building or the Pelli tower.
It is considered to be one of the finest and most expensive areas of the city. It boasts many French style buildings, large green spaces and first class restaurants. The Recoleta convent and the Pilar Church were built in 1706. There are a great number of restaurants, pubs and night club on the streets surrounding the cemetery, which gives a special atmosphere to the place.
San Telmo is by far the most bohemian neighborhood of Buenos Aires. With a great convergence of its XIX and XX century architecture, tango dancers, craftsmen and artists gather every Saturday and specially Sunday to expose their imagination and creativity. San Telmo is as well a nice center of antique shops where you can get real expensive pieces of art. You have Plaza Dorrego (a square) where people sit and drink Argentina's local beer.
